Optimize your Retail Displays and Visual Merchandising
You’ve worked so hard to open your salon, pick the right furnishings, hire the right people, train them, and then you’ve invested in inventory to supplement the income you bring in from the services you provide. Selling these products quickly will help you to bring in more money and keep customers coming back for more.
Moving products depends on the product as much as how it’s displayed.
Know your audience

- Even with the best products it doesn’t hurt to display them effectively to move them quickly.
Consider display colors
- Color plays a major role in luring would be customers to buy.Our brains are hyper visual so certain colors bring about emotions which may encourage action.
- Research suggests people are more likely to recall a color over an object or product. The same study says shoppers make a purchasing decision within 90 seconds of interacting with a product, and over 60% of the assessment is based on color alone.
- While you may not be able to control the packaging color you can use accents pieces to attract a customer attention.
Use light to your advantage
- Lighting shapes the overall atmosphere of your store and helps draw a shopper’s attention to a particular item in a display. Like signage, it can elegantly guide the shopper to the areas of the store you want to highlight.
- Once you highlighted and drawn attention to the right areas then use additional accent (focused from above) lighting to focus attention or with battery powered LED lighting (plus some crystals) you can create unique effects which will encourage engagement.
Establish a Hierarchy
- Your displays risk fading into the horizon when you present all of them at a uniform height. Experiment with differing heights to create contrast and capture customer interest and boost engagement with your products. Try angling your displays at altering degrees rather than laying them flat horizontally. This makes it easier for the customer to interact with the product.
- Use the Pyramid Principle to create a clear focal point and position supporting products cascading below it.
Incorporate Technology into Visual Merchandising
- If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that the impact of digital media in the retail space is only growing.
- More than half of those surveyed (63%) in a recent report admitted that digital signage catches their attention. Digital elements like interactive touchscreens that allow shoppers to search, browse, and share will continue to be integrated into in-store displays.
- Encouraging the customer to interact with technology give you the ability to remind customers about other services you offer or get them to sign up for a news letter so that you can send them news of specials or of new offerings.
