A Comprehensive Guide on Becoming a Popular Salon – Part I
With around 82,000 beauty salons in the US alone churning an estimated $20 billion in sales, you truly have your work cut out for you to make it in this competition.
The beauty industry is one of the largest industries in the world, with small businesses like barber shops, salons and spas drawing over 15% of the overall revenue.
With such large numbers, it can be intimidating to bring your salon to the forefront. However, it is not impossible.
Running a Successful Salon – Following the Right Tricks
Skincare Is for More than Just the Face
Good skincare includes the neck, the décolletage, the back of the hands and the shoulders. Explain this to your clients.
If your customers want healthier looking skin, give them products and services for more than just their face. Recommend products that provide an overall result.
This may also include products for their eyebrows, lashes and jawline.
Promote the Most Underrated Products at a Discount
Sometimes, the most boring products are the most important. For example, if we’re talking about hair care, the most underrated but important product would be the heat-protectant spray.
With different hair care services, sell heat-protectant sprays at a discount; show your clients the how and the why. In simple words, show your clients that you care.
Offer the Full Range of Retail Merchandise
If you offer skincare products, make sure to carry the full range i.e. day skincare products, night skincare products, lip care, eyebrow products etc.
If your client asks for a complete regimen, list all the beauty products that would be of use to them and order more as soon as you can.
Customers will find it quite unsatisfactory if you do not carry the complete product line or if you’ve run out, and that may transfer into a negative experience connected with your salon. Always make sure that your client is satisfied.
Follow the Trends
Whether its nail care, hair care or skincare, stick with the trends and always try to follow the latest tricks. Even if you cannot go all out with the different styles in the industry, you can offer something close to what customers see in magazines and online.
For example, perfectly shaped eyebrows and long lashes are quite popular nowadays. Offer eyebrow tinting, shaping and threading services. Promote a discount for customers who want more than one service.
Be Respectful of Your Client’s Budget
The trick for upselling salon services and retail products is to make sure your client can afford it. Customers may take offense if you keep pushing them to buy a certain product or avail a certain service, even though you know they won’t be able to afford it.
Don’t be a pushy salesperson. Instead, recommend certain services which you think might be of use to them and truthfully explain its benefits.
Chances are, your client will save up and come to your salon for a special treat.
