Debbie Brown – Finding and Sharing Hope
Debbie Brown’s jaw nearly hit the floor as one of her regular clients entered her salon—she looked fantastic. She was even more shocked to learn her client’s transformation was due to Debbie’s own advice. Upon Debbie’s recommendation, her client purchased a healthy lifestyle book and experienced phenomenal results. Suddenly, Debbie appreciated how much of our lives revolve around sharing and how often she’d been referring products or services to people without even realizing it—and certainly not making any money for doing so. It was during this ‘a-ha moment’ that she realized what an incredibly smart decision she’d made by starting her own Rodan + Fields® business. She knew how powerful a recommendation could be—especially from someone you know and trust—and she looked forward to sharing with others an opportunity that had not only inspired her, but restored her hope.
Ready to restyle
Debbie has been a hairdresser and salon owner for over 30 years and has always had a passion for the beauty industry. “I’m lucky that I’ve been so successful with my career, and I’m grateful that I’ve always had access to great skincare. My sister is a medical esthetician who has worked with some of the best dermatologists and plastic surgeons on the west coast. Clients were always complimenting my skin, and I would refer them to my sister.” At the beginning of 2015, however, Debbie began to wonder how much longer she could handle the physical strain of seeing 15 clients a day. “I was starting to get burned out, and I was aching from standing all the time.” Debbie happened to share this information with her friend, Kim, while they were out to coffee one day. “I told her how I was also worried about the cost of my daughter’s upcoming wedding and college tuition for my son who would be heading off to school next year. But, as a stylist, I only make money when I’m with a client, and I had no idea what I was going to do to supplement my income.”
Kim had started her Rodan + Fields business a few years prior and had invited Debbie to learn more about the Company several times. “I always cheered her on from the sidelines, but never looked into the opportunity for myself. There really wasn’t a reason why I was putting it off—I was just busy and didn’t think it was for me.” Kim shared some more information with Debbie and she agreed that if she liked the products, she would give it a try. She ordered the REDEFINE Regimen and within weeks, she noticed a difference in the appearance of her skin. “I called Kim and said I was ready to start. It may have taken me a while to see how truly amazing this opportunity is, but the timing was perfect.”
Adding volume
In April of 2015, Debbie enrolled as an Independent Consultant, hoping to ease some of her financial stress. Several years prior, she’d incurred a lot of debt opening a third salon, and she was determined to pay off some of her credit cards. Debbie listened to Kim’s coaching and began building her business. “The incentives that the Company provides are so amazing—it’s really motivating to have something to work toward, and it feels good to be recognized and appreciated.” Three months into her business, working ten hours a week, Debbie achieved Level V and earned a trip to San Francisco for a the RF Center for Leadership event.
Debbie loves how easily her business fits into her life. Regardless of whether she is recommending a new movie or skincare products, sharing things she loves feels very natural. “It’s really rewarding to share this with clients and see their excitement when they have a great experience with the products. It’s so fulfilling to see their satisfaction.”
Texturizing the layers
The support and encouragement from her team has also been extremely beneficial to her. “It feels great to celebrate our achievements together. I’m so proud that we’re all progressing consistently.” Because of this, she feels that her business has helped her grow on a personal level. “Before I started this, I wasn’t in a good place. I was overwhelmed and scared about the future. It felt like I was on a hamster wheel, and I’d lost hope. I didn’t know what I could do to change my situation. This opportunity helped me embrace a positive outlook and gave me hope that I could improve my circumstances. Now, instead of the anxiety I was carrying around, I wake up excited knowing that I have a way to change my future. I have something to strive for, and I’m already seeing the results of my progress—and that is so inspiring.”
A vibrant new look
Debbie is grateful that her R+F income has helped to eliminate most of her debt. She is now looking forward to being able to provide more for her family and having the funds to travel with her four children who are all grown up and living on their own. “I would love to fund more vacations for us as a family so we can spend more quality time together. And I know that, the more my business grows, the more financial freedom I’ll have. I never dreamed of all the possibilities that this could provide, but now I see the potential to reduce my hours at the salon and spend more time making an impact. The bigger picture is truly about being able to donate more generously, and I’m waiting to figure out in what way I’m going to give.”
Debbie’s business has given her a way to achieve goals that once seemed unattainable. “This opportunity has not only restored my hope, but it has given me a way to help others accomplish their goals. It’s so empowering to feel that sense of accomplishment when you’ve reached a milestone, and the positivity that you get from that is contagious. I know what it’s like to feel lost, so for me, my business is all about hope. If I can help someone find the inspiration they need to change their lives, then it’s all worth it.”
